Ms. Esther Ikere Eluzai
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare
Ms. Esther Ikere Eluzai has been the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare since November 2011. She is the senior civil servant that links the political leadership of the Ministry with civil servants on administrative, management, policy and financial matters.

Ms. Ikere obtained her Masters Degree at the University of Juba in 2006 in Sociology and Social Anthropology. She specialized in Gender and Development.

Ms. Ikere also holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and Social Anthropology at the University of Juba (2001). In her undergraduate degree she wrote a number of theses on social welfare, particularly social work and child welfare. .

Ms. Ikere Eluzai was an influential member in the First Parliament (South Sudan Legislative Assembly) after the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005 from 2006 to 2010. She was very active in the parliament debates and serve in the Committee for Gender, Child and Social Welfare and in the Committee for Education, Science and Technology.

Ms. Ikere trained State Legislators from Central Equatoria, Eastern Equatoria and Western Equatoria States in Torit in 2009. She was the Secretary for Women’s Parliamentarian Caucus from 2006 up to 2010 and obtained a certificate of recognition in parliamentary debate from the Speaker Hon James Wani Igga at the end of the South Sudan Legislative Assembly in 2010.

Madam Ikere is a lecturer by profession. She has taught at the University of Juba classes in Sociology of Development, Sociology of Industrial Societies, Social Change and Development, Urban Sociology, Sociology of Crime & Deviance, Women in Development and Gender Development.

Ms. Ikere has also worked in many voluntary organizations including her current voluntary work with Lulubo Women Association in Juba.
